Pokémon Cards IRL
Fandom brought to Life
Client: The Pokémon Company Role: Creative Lead / On-Set Director Type: Social-First Content / Live Action / Set Build Year: 2023
“3M+ views across global social platforms. Behind-the-scenes clips extended the campaign’s life well beyond the original release window.”
The brief was simple in theory: create something fresh for Pokémon's costume characters that felt different from their regular social output, staying true to the brand and the content fans expect. So, naturally, we turned iconic and new trading cards into literal doorways — starting with the physical card, then pulling viewers into a full-scale set built to mirror the artwork exactly.
I directed on set, working with Pokémon characters and physical builds to recreate each card's world. Four cards. Four languages. Four sets. One studio. Two days. I then led a team of six editors through post, keeping the transitions seamless and the tone snappy, playful, and social-first.
The films were built to excite and surprise fans who thought they knew what a Pokémon video looked like, haven’t we all been waiting to see ‘fat pikachu’ come to life?
